Hindhead Music Centre Arts & Crafts house in Hindhead

A place that feels right for music

Piano lessons happen in our beautiful Arts & Crafts house on the A287 at Hindhead Hill, in well-equipped teaching rooms – mostly with grand pianos – a comfortable waiting room, and easy parking right outside.

We're easily reached from the A3, or from Haslemere, Grayshott, Liphook and the surrounding villages. Haslemere railway station is just a couple of miles away.

Why learn piano at Hindhead?

For over 50 years we've been guiding musicians young and old through the musical maze, and the piano is by far our most popular instrument – so we have real depth of experience across every style and every stage, from a child's very first lesson through to diploma level.

  • Classical, jazz and more – our teachers can guide you through classical technique as well as jazz and improvisation, whatever direction inspires you.
  • Adult Pianists' Evening – adult learners are welcome to come along to our termly Adult Pianists' Evening, either just to listen or to practise performing your party piece in front of a friendly audience, while meeting other like-minded pianists.
  • Preliminary Piano classes – young children can join a small group of up to 4, introducing them to the joy of piano playing through puzzles and games before starting individual lessons. See our young children's page for details.
  • Theory classes, exam preparation – we can offer the auxiliary services to back up the practical lessons, including ABRSM and Trinity piano grades.
  • Grand pianos in our teaching rooms – most of our rooms are equipped with grand pianos, giving pupils a proper feel for the instrument from the start.

But most importantly, we all learn more easily and more happily when surrounded by other like-minded people, in an atmosphere which combines enthusiasm and fun, while always maintaining the highest standards possible.

More information

Tuition is normally one-to-one except where mentioned. Most pupils will have one half-hour lesson a week, but we can also arrange one-hour and fortnightly lessons.

All teachers are DBS checked.

The school is normally open during termtime from 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 5.30pm on Saturdays, so we can usually schedule a weekly lesson at a time to suit you or your child. If you have more than one child learning, we may well be able to schedule lessons together so as to minimise travel.

Optionally we will prepare pupils for the Associated Board or Trinity music examinations. Our record for ABRSM exams over the years is unsurpassed: very often a majority of our pupils are awarded distinctions, and failures are unheard-of.

Hindhead Music Centre is a non-profit-making company limited by guarantee. Fees are set to cover the Centre's running costs and no more; any profits are ploughed back into the Centre itself.
