Roy Stratford’s Musical Appreciation Talks

Begin your week with an inspiring talk in our Recital Room, featuring live and recorded music!

Roy says, ‘My approach to the talks is based on a mixture of enthusiasm and demonstration. I think that enthusiasm is infectious (it certainly works for me), and that anything that I say about music needs to be backed up in sound, so I will always spend a lot of time either playing at the piano or a relevant recording.’

Roy has developed a varied musical career as pianist, conductor, composer and lecturer. He lectures regularly at Wigmore Hall and West Dean College, and teaches piano and chamber music at St. Paul’s School.

The talks cover a wide range of musical subjects, and are held in our Recital Room. Just turn up, and we guarantee you a fascinating morning!

When: Mondays 10:00 am to 12:00 noon with a break for coffee (term time only).
Cost: £11 per session or £75 per term of ten weeks.

Adult Musical Evenings

Adults are often challenged by the idea of performing at a formal concert, but anyone learning a musical instrument will enjoy and benefit from meeting others in the same predicament and hearing them play.

With this in mind, the Centre holds regular, informal get-togethers for adult pupils. We provide wine, and we routinely have a large number of volunteers to play in what is always a friendly atmosphere! These events are free to all, and are yet another of the unique services we provide to encourage our pupils to enjoy their music, and to share this joy with those of similar interest.

For more info: please call 01428 604941 or email us.

Adult Beginners’ Evening

Each term we hold an event for our adult pupils up to about grade 5 standard, covering all instruments. They are invited to share a glass of wine and a chat, then take advantage of the opportunity to play a piece if they feel so inclined! An accompanist is available for singers and orchestral instrumentalists. This enjoyable social event is hosted by the principal, Ann Hughes-Chamberlain.

Adult Pianists’ Evening

Each term we invite our adult pianists to an evening of wine and chat, offering the chance to play the pieces they have been working on if they feel so inclined. There is no pressure to play, but we advise everyone to bring their music just in case they suddenly feel brave! This enjoyable social event is hosted by the principal, Ann Hughes-Chamberlain.
